Buckhalter surprised many with his ability to catch passes out of the backfield during Shrine and Hula Bowl practices. That kind of ability is very popular with NFL types. Buckhalter could very easily be drafted ahead of Alexander.
The Sporting News reports that the Jets may be strongly seeking a RB in this year's draft. Someone that could shoulder the heavy burden assumed by RB Curtis Martin in recent campaigns. The club might be siding towards Nebraska RB Correll Buckhalter, who displayed a nice combination of speed and quickness at the East-West Shrine Game. Buckhalter is considered a 3rd-5th round level draft pick.
TFY Draft: "...another who looked smooth and fluid, as well as explosive was Correll Buckhalter of Nebraska. He caught the ball well and showed a burst through the 'hole' (three tackling dummies really). It would not shock us to see Buckhalter drafted ahead of teammate Dan Alexander."
The War Room: The player that may have improved his draft status the most this week is Nebraska running back Corell Buckhalter. At 6-0, 215 lbs., Buckhalter was known for his powerful running style, but he also showed the ability to catch the football as a receiver out of the backfield, and his agility in the open field was a pleasant surprise to the scouts here this week.
Lindy's 2001 NFL Preview: Pretty good speed and versatility.. Will block decently.. Not a darter.. Did pretty well in postseason.. Powerful, does well in short-yardage situations
