- [Brandon Jackson] Packers: Jackson knows Super Bowl may be his last game with Green Bay
- [Barrett Ruud] National Football Post: The Bucs are saying publicly they want middle linebacker Barrett Ruud back. People inside the building at One Buc Place are telling me Ruud played pretty well last year and he brings a lot to the table from a mental standpoint. But none of that means Ruud will be back. The issue is whether or not the Bucs want to pay Ruud like he will want to be paid.
- [All Star Games] Omaha World Herald: The former Nebraska players playing for the North produced modest statistics. Roy Helu ran twice for 3 yards; Niles Paul caught a 5-yard pass and returned a kickoff 29 yards; and Eric Hagg and Pierre Allen recorded a tackle apiece. Alex Henery kicked an extra point and averaged 42.8 yards on six punts.

- [Roy Helu Jr.] Tony Pauline of Sports Illustrated included Roy Helu Jr. as one of the Risers during Senior Bowl practice week:
"Helu was one of the most complete backs in Mobile and was successful in every facet of the game. He surprised scouts with his speed and ability to run off tackle. Helu showed competent hands out of the backfield as a receiver. He was by far the best blocker of any running back in attendance. With the draft lacking true feature running backs, Helu is likely to be a top 75 choice."

- [Eric Hagg] SI Senior Bowl Notes: With all the talk of money being paid to college athletes and players receiving unauthorized training at the expense of NFL agents, it's refreshing to hear a top-rated athlete shun these things in favor of his college degree. Such is the case with Nebraska safety Eric Hagg, a terrific middle-round draft pick that's done well in the early going at the Senior Bowl. Rather than ship off to train at a prominent facility, Hagg opted to prepare for the Senior Bowl and combine on the Nebraska campus so he can fulfill his final 12 hours of credits and receive his degree in sociology.

- [Gene Huey] The Indianapolis Colts have fired longtime running backs coach Gene Huey. Huey coached in 304 games since 1992. He was an NU assistant from 1977 to 1986. According to the Pioneer Press, Huey has been offered the same position with the Vikings, but said today he has not made a decision about the job and still plans to talk with Vikings coach Leslie Frazier. "I'd prefer anything on this matter to come from Leslie," Huey said. The Colts released Huey this week after 19 years of service and success coaching four different 1,000-yard backs — Marshall Faulk, Edgerrin James, Dominic Rhodes and Joseph Addai. But as injuries mounted last season, the Colts finished 29th in the league in rushing, averaging 92.7 yards per game. Frazier and Huey coached together under Tony Dungy at Indianapolis.

- [All Star Games] Nebraska leads all schools with five players selected to the Senior Bowl: Officially announced today, the Cornhuskers will be represented by Pierre Allen, Roy Helu Jr., Alex Henery, Mike McNeill and Niles Paul.
Prince Amukamara was offered but may have turned down the invitation, a not uncommon decision for top 10 prospects.
In recent years, heavy sponsorship from the NFL has made the Senior Bowl the most prestigious all star game; it will air live the NFL Network on January 29th.
The Huskers previously had five Senior Bowl participants in 1997 and 2001 (See: Huskers in all star games).
Other known 2011 All Star game participants:
*East West Shrine Game (January 22, NFL Network): Pierre Allen and Mike Smith. With the above announcement from the Senior Bowl, it is not known if Allen will still be playing in both contests.
*Eastham Energy All Star Game (January 23, Fox College Sports): A new game for 2011 will be played in Tempe, AZ featuring a Stars vs Stripes format. Nebraska's now-famous CEO/coach Joe Moglia will face off as head coach against Hal Mumme. He won't be alone as the Stripes squad will feature Eric Hagg, DJ Jones, and Ricky Henry.
*Roster announcements soon to be released: The NFLPA Game: Texas Vs. The Nation (Feb. 5, CBS) and another inaugural contest, the Dixie Gridiron Classic in Utah (Feb. 5, TV broadcast unknown).
