[Brandon Jackson] Cleveland Browns RB Brandon Jackson is expected to be sidelined a maximum of six weeks due to a turf toe injury. The good news is that the ailment does not require surgery. (KFFL)
[Sam Koch] Cheifs-Ravens notes Punter Sam Koch unleashed a 73-yard punt in the third quarter that carried a still-outstanding 53-yard net because coverage men Talmadge Jackson and Johdrick Morris could not down the ball. However, the play was wiped out when Jackson went out of bounds during his run. Koch’s next punt netted 70 yards with a Chiefs penalty.
[Niles Paul] Washington Redskins Training Camp: Notes From Wednesday Morning: Niles Paul might have a lesser draft pedigree than Leonard Hankerson, but he is making the most of his opportunities. From what I've seen, Paul has made nearly every catch thrown his way, and is really making his case for being on this roster come Week 1. He has made the tough catches look routine, in addition to making the routine catches look, well, routine. Hankerson on the other hand? Another drop today. Just saying.
[Pierre Allen] Seahawks vs Chargers defensive play of the game: On the Chargers’ first snap after the Seahawks had tied the game at 17, rookie defensive end Pierre Allen came up with a fumble-forcing hit on Scott Tolizen, the Chargers’ No. 3 QB. Rookie defensive tackle Pep Levingston recovered at the Chargers’ 22-yard line.
[Roy Helu] Washington Examiner Practice report: The running backs worked on picking up blitzing linebackers Tuesday morning and one thing was clear: rookie Roy Helu needs a lot of work in this area. Man did he get chastised a few times by running backs coach Bobby Turner. Too often Helu kept his head down and failed to move his feet. At one point Turner shouted, “You’ve got to get doggone meaner! That’s terrible!” Another time Turner yelled, “You’ve got to get nasty!”
Give Helu credit, though, for picking up London Fletcher on one blitz; finally, Helu kept his head up. And later Helu picked up a blitz during full-team work.
[Demorrio Williams] Heartland Health Practice Report: The defense had success on several blitzes throughout the day. Most impressive was Demorrio Williams giong through the line untouched on a delayed dog stunt and Justin Houston timing a snap to come off the offensive right edge far too fast for Barry Richardson to handle.
[Eric Warfield] Warfield returns: Former Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Warfield has joined the Husker staff as a student assistant. Warfield recently returned to NU to take classes.
'We thought he'd be a good set of hands, and somebody with the knowledge and respect and his accomplishments … I'm glad he asked to come out and be a part of this thing,' Pelini said
[Adam Carriker] Redskins analysis, Aug. 6: Hard to get a good read on Sean Locklear during his first work with the Redskins. Did see him bump Adam Carriker a bit on one stretch run, but it didn’t really serve as much of an obstacle as Carriker quickly recovered and got through. Gotta give Locklear a few days to get his timing down.
[Roy Helu] Roy Helu showed good patience on one run, staying behind his line, then cutting right to the hole and squeezing through. Used his size (he’s listed at 5-foot-11) to his advantage. Also saw Evan Royster show some patience on a run, waiting for the hole and then going.
[Demorrio Williams] Kansas City Chiefs Saturday Practice Report: The defense worked on interception return drills earlier in the day and that's a good thing. QB Tyler Palko was looking for WR Verran Tucker on a crossing route and LB Demorrio Williams stepped in and picked it off.
[Lydon Murtha] Dolphins practice report: Lydon Murtha started five games for the Dolphins last season, and it appears the time he spent as a starting tackle has begun to pay off. Murtha was pushing his opponents down at left tackle on Friday. At one point during the team's 11-on-11 series Murtha washed Jason Taylor to the inside of the blocking scheme and pancaked him on the ground.
[Prince Amukamara] Amukamara remains unsigned **Update** New York Giants have agreed to terms with first-round draft choice CB Prince Amukamara on a four-year deal worth $8.18 million with more than 90 percent of the money guaranteed. (KFFL)
[Pierre Allen] Seattle Seahawks Training Camp Notes: Pierre Allen, AJ Schable, and Jameson Konz (no, he wasn't released, that was a bad report by Rotoworld) continued to play at defensive end in the place of Chris Clemons and Red Bryant. Nothing spectacular or noteworthy other than Pierre Allen continues to look the part. I think he's got a real chance to find a spot on the roster this season.
[Sam Koch] Punter Sam Koch also practiced fieldgoals, clanging one off the cross bar. 'I was really disappointedin that one he hit of the bar, but he made the other ones,'Harbaugh said with a laugh. 'That's pretty important. You have tohave a backup kicker.'
[Maurice Purify] Georgia Force and the Cleveland Gladiators in Round 1 of AFL Playoffs: The Force also has Maurice Purify back after the UFL’s delay in its season. He’s a clear favorite for offensive rookie of the year. In 16 games, Purify caught 129 passes for 1,650 yards and 46 touchdowns.
