  • [Green bay Packers] Second-year pro Brandon Jackson received more raves for his offseason progress than any player on the roster. The coaching staff puts major stock in offseason work and is adamant that Jackson is a more confident, decisive runner after gaining strength and experience working in the weight room and on the field this spring and summer. He’s the likely backup for Ryan Grant, though it’s worth remembering that Jackson also looked more impressive last offseason than he did on game days. (PackersNews.com)

  • [CFL] The Winnipeg Sun tabbed rookie CB Willie Amos as the top defensive player in the Blue Bombers win over Montreal. Amos "made several good plays. But the best one was a leaping interception of an Adrian McPherson pass and returning it to the Montreal 11. That not only set up a tying field goal by Alexis Serna but gave the Bombers a much-needed lift in the fourth quarter."
From the Sun's game recap: As usual, it was the Bomber defence that held the fort until the offence could get on track. It forced the Montreal offence to turn the ball over three times in the first half alone.
And it was an interception by rookie cornerback Willie Amos that turned the game around. Amos picked off an Adrian McPherson pass and returned it to the Montreal 11, setting up a game-tying field goal.
"It was a fun game, I had a great time," Amos said. "Of course, we know we had the cuts coming up and I couldn't think about that. All I wanted to come out here and have fun ... That's how I play in order to make it happen. I've just got to play my game."

  • [Tampa Bay Buccaneers] Tampa Bay had another quarterback on its practice field during minicamp, but he was no threat to become the sixth on its roster. Former Nebraska QB Scott Frost attended Tuesday's practice as a guest of defensive backs coach Raheem Morris, and he even participated in a few drills by throwing passes that were designed to be intercepted by the unit. Despite all the heat and humidity, middle linebacker Barrett Ruud barely broke a sweat.
"I was bad, but practice was all right,'' he said. "Today was better than it's been around here for the past two weeks. The way I judge the heat is whether my shorts are leaking at the bottom -- then I know it's really hot. Right now, I'm midway. If my shoes are dry, I'm good." (TBO.com)

  • [Kansas City Chiefs] When the Chiefs signed Atlanta’s Demorrio Williams early in the free-agency period, the initial plan was to start him on the outside and move Donnie Edwards to the middle and Napoleon Harris to the bench.
So far, the Chiefs have held to their linebacking lineup from last year, which also includes Derrick Johnson at the other outside spot. Williams at minicamp started in place of Edwards, but only because of Edwards’ sore hamstring.
Plenty of time remains for the Chiefs to make their initially planned changes. Some of their officials expect Williams to eventually wind up as a starter instead of Harris.
“They told me I’d have the chance to come in and play,” Williams said. “They couldn’t promise me any more than that. It’s up to me to earn the job.” (KCStar.com)
  • [Green Bay Packers] Brandon Jackson Could Be An NFL Featured Back - Our sources tell us that Packers second year running back Brandon Jackson has all the tools to become an NFL featured running back, but not in Green Bay. Even though Jackson has thoroughly impressed coaches and teammates while running with the first time offense in practice during Ryan Grant’s contract pursuit, our sources tell us that the Packers are about to lock up Grant to a long term deal that will render Jackson a back-up for his entire time in Green Bay. Still, he’s someone for dynasty owners to keep a close eye on, as the Packers are sure to use him whenever reasonable, and he could become the Michael Turner of Green Bay until he becomes a free agent. The Packers say Jackson has looked more comfortable with Green Bay's offense than he did last year, when he finished the season with a 113-yard rushing game versus Detroit. Jackson has come into OTAs stronger, better and more confident -– and it has been evident in his play. Jackson is expected to have a bigger year this year. (FFMasterMind.com)
