2008 NFL Draft:
- Three Huskers heard their names called this weekend (fewest since 2000) and Nebraska was shutout of the first 4 rounds of the NFL Draft for the first time since 1970.
Biggest surprises: Zackary Bowman (5/142), not Carl Nicks (5/164), was the first Husker selected.
An outside linebacker was taken in the 6th round but it was Bo Ruud and not Steve Octavien; Octavien had been rated higher on the more extensive draft sites.
- No offers yet for Keller, but Octavien is headed to K.C

- ESPN reports the Oakland Raiders have traded CB Fabian Washington to the Baltimore Ravens for a fourth round (No. 125 overall) pick.
- Information about the Ravens' new speedy CB: Fabian Washington
- Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: "Considering how well his brother and fellow former Nebraska linebacker Barrett Ruud is playing for the Buccaneers, you know Bo Ruud would get a shot somewhere. The Patriots needed young linebackers, and they've got plenty to choose from now."

- [Carolina Panthers] If there has been a surprise during workouts, it's G Toniu Fonoti. He reported at around 330 pounds, and he looks like the player who was a standout in San Diego. If he can keep it up, he provides a good option inside and might even allow Travelle Wharton to remain at left tackle. Fonoti will help the Panthers become more physical up front. (Sporting News)

- [AFL] The VooDoo's active roster is at 23, one under the league limit. Officials waived kicker Alex Romero and defensive lineman Lauvale Sape and signed kicker Todd France and linebacker Eric Johnson (6-0, 241). France will continue his graduate-school work at UNLV and join the VooDoo in Phoenix for Friday night's game. Johnson started the season with the Georgia Force, where he played in '07. He has played with the Arizona Cardinals ('05), Atlanta Falcons ('04) and Oakland Raiders ('00-'03) in the NFL. In Super Bowl XXXVII, he returned a blocked punt 13 yards for a touchdown for the Raiders against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

- [New England Patriots] From Max Iascone of BleacherReport.com: If youth isn't added to the secondary, the Patriots could have problems with faster receivers, who should be able to outrun the aging secondary. This problem may be rectified through the draft however, because of Belichick's aptitude in drafting gems in the later rounds. The team has held a private film session and interview with Nebraska's Zack Bowman, whose medical history makes him a second day pick despite his first round talent.
- [Detroit Lions] Lions FS Daniel Bullocks (knee) is currently able to run with the team and has started some cutting and change in direction. The team is taking it slow with Bullocks to make sure he is ready for the regular season. (DetroitLions.com, KFFL)

- [Chicago Bears] Chicago Sun-Times' Mike Mulligan got a couple interesting tidbits during breakfast with Lovie Smith this morning. Among the highlights, Smith projected that Mike Brown will be the starting free safety. Presumably, that means Danieal Manning is out of a job and Brandon McGowan and Kevin Payne will battle for the strong safety job.
- [Oakland Raiders] Although the Raiders and Browns have exchanged e-mails about a possible trade for Oakland cornerback Fabian Washington, it doesn't sound as if a deal is in the works. The Browns were told Oakland has an offer of a second-round pick on the table for the former No. 1 draft pick. The Browns, of course, have no pick available higher than the fourth round, and they are not even sure they would give that up for Washington. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)
