  • [NFL Draft] NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock unvieled his top 25 prospects and DE Adam Carriker was ranked 8th overall, just two spots below Brady Quinn, the over-heralded Notre Dame quarterback.
In a segment on the Network's 'Path to the Draft', Mayock introduced Carriker as "a guy personally I like more than most people do". He has "the best use of hands of any defensive lineman in the draft; very strong and very good hand placement". "Spacially", Mayock added, Carriker "reminds me a little bit of Howie Long".
Mayock also reiterated a major reason why Carriker has shot up so many draft boards: versatility. "He can play in a 4-3, he can play in a 3-4, he can play anywhere up and down the line of scrimmage in any scheme".

Schlesinger's role was phased out of the Lions' offense last year. His specialty is being the lead blocker for the tailback. Schlesinger expects to clear the way for Ronnie Brown this year.
"You get me to lead block some of those guys, we'll have a strong running game," Schlesinger said.
Schlesinger was asked about the uncertainty of Miami's quarterback position.
"We've been going through this in Detroit," he said. "It's always the quarterback situation. If you have a strong running game, I think we can make things happen." (DetNews.com)

His progress, or lack thereof, over the next few months could impact the one likely change along the offensive line, since he is viewed as a potential starter.
"He's got to get in good shape," Petrino said. "He will raise the average of the weight of our offensive line. He's played mostly around 370, 375, but he's been in the 390s. He's a good athlete with good feet and can run. We want to see him work and see how he does."

  • [Pro Day] Rob Rang of CBS Sportsline ranked Brandon Jackson as the #4 "Riser" after Pro Day workouts:
"The 2007 running back class has been characterized by many as being Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch and not much else. Jackson is one of several backs competing to be among the next group selected at the position. After electing to leave after his junior year, Jackson needed to work out well to separate himself from the pack. His performance at the Combine was solid, but with his forties being electronically timed in the 4.56-4.58 range, scouts were looking for a little more explosiveness. With a pair of low 4.4 times during Nebraska's March 7 Pro Day, Jackson provided exactly that."

  • [Free Agency] ...the Seattle Seahawks released defensive end Grant Wistrom on Thursday. The Titans (who are looking for defensive line help) have a couple of connections with Wistrom. Wistrom, considered a high character guy, could return to Seattle after testing the market. (Nashville City Paper)

Buckhalter hasn't received an offer from the Birds, but they do have an interest in having him back, but they're also exploring other options.

Keith Brooking has started in the middle in place of Hartwell and performed fairly well, although he has said countless times he would rather player in more open space at weakside linebacker. If Brooking does move to the middle, Demorrio Williams, a restricted free agent the Falcons hope to retain, would start at weakside linebacker. Michael Boley finished the past two seasons as the starting outside linebacker.
If Williams were somehow signed away from the Falcons as a free agent, Beck likely would be placed in the middle, with Brooking and Boley as the outside linebackers. (AJC.com)

There has been speculation Denver will zero in on Carriker, who has had a good offseason. He is a hard worker and playmaker.
