- [Seattle Seahawks] Josh Brown made 4-of-5 field goals through the skinnier, modified goal posts (think Arena League width). His best kick was from 45 yards, which split what appears to be the 10 foot space. (TheNewsTribune)

"Nice job, nice job," shouted Fewell who gave Kelsay a smack on the back.

- [San Francisco 49ers] Rookiee linebacker Jay Moore had no doubt that he and the rest of his draft class were being closely scrutinized during the two practices, and was eager to leave a solid first impression upon his evaluators.
“It’s much easier to run around in sweats out there, but you put the pads on for the first time, you really want to make a good impression and show them that you are a ball player,” said Moore. (49ers.com)
- [Tampa Bay Buccaneers] Head coach Jon Gruden on how important it is for LB Barrett Ruud to step up this season: “Well, he is stepping up. He’s a good player. He stepped up last year when [Shelton] Quarles was out. He’s a good middle linebacker with a chance to become outstanding. We’ve got to play great around him, too. The other linebackers have got to play great. Upfront, we’ve got to play great. Our safety people and our corners – we’ve all got to step up. But Barrett Ruud is going to be a leader here, and he is asserting himself right now.” (Buccaneers.com)
- [New York Giants] Practice Notes from 'Ledger on Giants' by Mike Garafolo: Some horrible communication between the quarterbacks and the offensive line. There were two late snaps (maybe the center's fault, maybe the three guys that jumped, maybe the QB's fault) and another false start by G Chris Patrick. But Patrick redeemed himself later with a nice block on somebody while pulling. (Couldn't see exactly who it was because my vision was blocked. Don't think TC would've appreciated my running out on the field to find out.) (NJ.com)

- [Philadelpia Eagles] Last year, the Eagles hoped 2006 third-round draft choice Chris Gocong would push veteran Dhani Jones for the starting spot. This year, Gocong is being pushed by second-year pro Tank Daniels and rookie Stewart Bradley, also a third-round pick.
“I wouldn’t say that we hate each other, Stu and I, but it’s a nice little competition,” Gocong said. “We’re definitely pushing each other.” (Comcast.SportsNet)

- [MLB] With everything about Jason Giambi up in the air, the Yankees reportedly made an offer for Oakland first baseman Dan Johnson, but New York balked when the A's asked for Triple-A outfielder Brett Gardner. They also went after Arizona's Tony Clark to no avail. (San Francisco Chronicle)

- Rookie running back Brandon Jackson found himself in an unfamiliar position during practice - fullback.
The Packers' second-round pick is supposed to be competing with Vernand Morency for the starting halfback job, and he is. But McCarthy wants to develop diversity with his running backs and thinks there will be times when he can use two running backs in the same backfield. Thus, Jackson lined up in front of Morency on several plays.
"I laughed when they told me to do it," Jackson said. "I was like, 'Hey, whatever it takes, whatever it takes for the team to get better.'"
Asked if he had ever played fullback, Jackson said, "Have I? Yes. In middle school." (JSOnline.com)

- [Minors] Jed Morris, who played 45 games for the RockHounds in 2006 before being diagnosed with leukemia, played in his first game of the 2007 season on Saturday with the Athletics of the rookie-level Arizona League. He was the A's designated hitter on Saturday and started at catcher on Sunday, batting 1-for-5 with a triple and a walk in two games.
Last summer doctors found a cancerous mass in Morris' chest, but the tumor was eliminated with chemotherapy. Morris entered the 2007 season fully recovered and played in a few simulated games in extended spring training in Phoenix, but broke a bone in his hand, which delayed his return.
Morris hit .306 with six home runs and scored 27 runs for Midland last season, playing outfielder, catcher and designated hitter. (MyWestTexas.com)

- [NBA] One player who is unlikely to return to the Nets is big man Mikki Moore. His outstanding 2006–07 season may have priced him out of New Jersey's range, and truth be told it was probably a fluke year anyway.
Between the expected pursuit of Washington's Andray Blatche and the drafting of big man Sean Williams on Thursday, it's a loud statement that Moore probably isn't coming back. (J.Hollinger, NYSun.com)
