"If you have to knock your guy back 3 yards to go 3 yards, then that's what you have to do. As an offensive lineman, you have to make room for them to run the ball no matter how much room that is." (Chron.com)

- Ravens return specialist B.J. Sams was arrested and charged with driving under the influence Tuesday morning by Maryland State Police, according to a police report. It is his second DUI since August of 2005. Repeat violators can be given as much as a four-game suspension by the NFL.
The undefeated Ravens' top options besides Sams are wide receiver Mark Clayton and rookie running back Cory Ross, who had a strong training camp but wasn't able to unseat Sams from his starting job. (RavensInsider.com)
Ironically, should Ross get the call, his first NFL game could come this week against his hometown Denver Broncos.

- [Baltimore Ravens] PROTRADE.com, a site where you can "buy athletes like company stock shares", listed Sam Koch amont the "Best Value Players" for Week 5-
Baltimore P Sam Koch is the second most valuable punter this season, and is still one of the cheapest. He just needs one more good punt [all season] and to justify his current price. He should get it this weekend at Invesco. He is averaging almost 45 yards a punt and has pinned the opposing team inside the twenty 13 times. Projected Value: $75.
- [Oakland Raiders] CB Fabian Washington reaggravated a hamstring injury and is questionable for this week.
- [CFL] Jonathan Huntington of the Edmonton Sun tabbed Esks OL Patrick Kabongo for his "Team of the Week"- "The hulking youngster at right tackle kept Fred Perry - the CFL's sack leader - from doing any major damage. An apparent mismatch on paper, Perry didn't register a sack all night."

- [Atlanta Falcons] From the AP- Ed Hartwell, the former starter at middle linebacker, is expected to return for the next game after undergoing arthrocopsic surgery on both knees during the preseason. But it's hard to envision him coming back as a starter with Keith Brooking in the middle, flanked on the outside by Boley and Demorrio Williams. Williams led the Falcons with 10 tackles Sunday.
- From AJC- MLB Ed Hartwell is expected to be back next week against the Giants. His return will be interesting because the starting linebacker group of Demorrio Williams, Michael Boley and Keith Brooking has played well. Williams would be the likeliest to lose his starting job if Hartwell resumes his normal role at middle linebacker.

- [Kansas City Chiefs] Shields’ streak continues
Guard Will Shields will start his 210th consecutive game today when the Chiefs take on San Francisco at Arrowhead Stadium. It’s the second longest active streak, topped only by the 224-gamer Packers quarterback Brett Favre takes into tomorrow’s contest with the Eagles.
Shields has started every game since Week 2 of his rookie season in 1993, a remarkable run considering the position he plays. And he hasn’t just been in there, he’s been as good as it gets as an 11-time Pro Bowl selection. Shields views neither the streak nor the all-star selections as his greatest accomplishment.
“I think that I am more proud just in the simple fact that I can say I’ve had a career,” he said. “I think that is something that is especially unique, to say that you had a career in the NFL. It’s not like a guy that just says, ‘I’ve been there; I’ve played a couple of years.’ I think you can look back on it and say that I’ve done the things that I needed to do to actually stay around and have a little longevity.”
Well put. (Telegram.com)
